Welcome to the Barrett One Name Study!

Hello,

Welcome to the Barrett Name Study. The surnames associated with this name Study are Barrett. The purpose of the Barrett One-Name-Study project is to provide a central and open access place in Wikitree for members who wish to collaborate in researching the Surname Barrett regardless of where those Barrett’s were born or in what era they lived. We are focusing on the Barrett name from Massachusetts area in the 1700’s who migrated to the St. Lawrence County region of New York State during the 1800’s. See our Task List. There are many alternate spellings of the name Barrett (e.g. Barrette, etc.) For the time being this study is focused only on the Barrett surname itself and others with these various similar surnames may join us if they wish or begin their own Name Study. If you would like to join the Study please contact the project leader Andrew Simpier or post a comment to the right. If you have any questions, just ask. Thanks!

Good morning! I see, in other messages, you have opened a category for Barretts of Irish Origins - have you done this for England/UK?

Denise

You might include, under sources:

Barrett, William. Genealogy of Some of The Descendants of Thomas Barrett, Sen., of Braintree, Mass., 1635 (D. Ramaley & Son, Saint Paul, Minn., 1888)

and note the "index" I started to build on that page

My Barrett lineage is in Bedford & Yonkers, NY thru my 8th great grandfather then I believe jumps to Samuel Barrett + BIRTH 26 JAN 1639 • Barnstable, Massachusetts & DEATH 23 NOV 1688 • Yonkers, Westchester, New York, 9th great-grandfather. The earliest I have found on WikiTree is Samuel Barrett - 2486 and his father John Barrett - 2484 with partial profiles. Family being in Westchester County, New York - how would that fit into your Barrett name study ?
